Drunken Tattoos

I know this is sort of a weird blog topic, especially coming from someone who does not have a tattoo and really is not planning on getting one. I just chose to write about tattoos because I could not sleep one night and there was a documentary called "Ancient Ink" on the history channel that kept my attention.

Drunken Tattoos are not a good idea for multiple reasons. For one, drunks move around more without realizing it. Also people who have been drinking are also prone to bleed more since alcohol thins the blood. It is even illegal for a tattoo artist to administer a tattoo unless the person is sober in the UK. Anyone who would give a drunk a tattoo should be stripped of their license and fined because obviously that person is not thinking straight. However, one persons regret is our entertainment.

Glow in the dark Tattoos

The tattoo of the future is the glow in the dark tattoos. These are tattoos that you can only see with a black light. They are a good choice for people who want a tattoo but do not want it to interfere with their career. Some people have even had a normal tattoo traced in the UV ink which looks really cool. Black light reactive ink is used, which is reactive to UV light. UV tattoos take longer to get because the ink is thinner and more difficult to apply, it is also more expensive. I am not going to lie...I kind of want one of these.

This is a normal tattoo with a dash of UV.

Marine Tattoos

Tattoo shops make a killing on military bases. As soon as a soldier gets back from Iraq they usually get a visit. The variations of tattoos they receive are patriotic flags, tattoos in memory of fallen friends, or the weapon they used.

The bulldog is a popular U.S Marine Corps tattoo. They are known as the bulldog because of the respect from their foes. German soldiers referred to the marines as “devil dogs” because of their hellacious fighting skills.

The most popular fallen soldier tattoo is a M-4 rifle planted in a pair of boots and topped with a Kevlar helmet.

Another popular tattoo for marines to get is a meat tag on the ribs so their bodies can be easily identified. A meat tag has information about the soldier such as their social security number, religion, and blood type just in case when they are killed their limbs are blown off. Usually ribs stay intact.

(his underarm hair is pretty disgusting looking...but you get the idea..I've discovered that the attractive soldiers do not post the pictures of their tattoos.)

Navy Tattoos

Sailors usually used a basic style with a minimum amount of details, which made the tattoos look two dimensional and flat. Their typical tattoos were mermaids, anchors, ships, birds, snakes, flowers, and hearts which had a cartoon feel to them.

Below are a few of the popular tattoos of a seaman’s life:

-Seaman gets a pig on one foot and a rooster on the other. Supposedly, they would protect a seaman from drowning.

- To help the seaman hold the rigging's better they would have hold on the knuckle of one hand and fast on the other knuckle.
-If a seaman has sailed the Atlantic Ocean they can get an Anchor.
-If a seaman has sailed around Cape Horn they can get a Full Rigged Ship.
-If a seaman had served on a China station they can get a Dragon.
-If a seaman has crossed the equator he can get a Shell back turtle.
-A Golden Dragon shows that a seaman has crossed the International Date Line.
-On the left side of the seaman they could get port and starboard on the right side of the body to signify ship lights.
-If a seaman was a deckhand he could get a rope tattooed around the wrist.

Gang & Prison tattoos

The ultimate symbol for gang members are their tattoos. It shows their total commitment since it is permanent. Their tattoos also tell a lot of things about the person such as, who they are, which gang they are affiliated with, what their beliefs are when it comes to race, how many years they have been in jail which they refer to as dead time, and how many kills they have had. Teardrops under the eye and spider webs on the elbows symbolize people killed. If someone has a tattoo that they did not earn it is not unheard of that other prison inmates physically remove the tattoo by cutting the flesh off. Also prison guards have to be incredibly careful to keep gangs separated to prevent on site murders
